History of Atlas
Atlas narrative and history piece.
The Atlas Board
The Atlas Board is lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt and is generally labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation. ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis but without a doubt irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu. Board bylaws govern that nulla pariatu excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim throughout the next phase of the plan.
On entering the Metaverse:
The Board decided to pivot to metaverse ventures years ago after the moderate failure of the instantaneous transportation research department. Originally tasked with uniting two points in meat space, the project ultimately came up short only being able to convert between analog and digital realms. It is the only time Atlas has ever had to publicly admit failure, though most close to the situation don’t see it as such.
Atlas Corporation is headquartered in Decentraland; as such all Atlas business is conducted according to the laws and traditions of its home metaverse. Decentraland is the only truly decentralized and open metaverse and is the natural home for a crypto-capitalist company like Atlas.
Atlas identifies as an Ape company, as many of the self-admitted Atlas contractors are Apes. Atlas Corporation has been accused as one of the main perpetuators of the stereotypes that all Apes are good at web3 development.
Atlas Divisions
Atlas has grown to become a very siloed organization, with several independent spokes leading from a common hub but with intentionally limited communications between the various business divisions. No organizational charts have been released so nobody has a complete picture of what the actual corporate structure looks like – what little information is known has been assumed from observing products and services released over time. Naturally this is a bit challenging and somewhat akin to determining the blueprints of a boat only observing the wake it leaves behind.
Some divisions use the legacy “a division of the Atlas Corporation” in their corporate branding providing evidence that there is any kind of corporate structure at all. Other arms of the business opt to hide their existence entirely – perhaps they believe the undue attention might cause the Board to revisit the funding mandate, or perhaps the technology invented or discovered by a division is so important they need to shield its existence from the everyone for their own good.
The following, as sparse as it may seem, is the most complete picture to date of the Atlas Corporation org chart:
Atlas Corporation – The parent corporation, we assume. Projects that don the Atlas Corporation name and not a subsidiary tend to be foundational projects that build out new communities. Several high profile NFT communities have Atlas [begrudgingly] to thank for its technology. The Atlas Corporation has recently begun its involvement in the creation of a number of hyperstructures of which the remainder of the metaverse can be built on top of.
Decentralandalytics – One of the only divisions that still uses the legacy “, a Division of the Atlas Corporation” in its corporate branding, Decentralandalytics is an analytics provider and collects data on Decentraland and its native communities including wearable creators, event promoters, and the ecosystem at large.
The Defense Division (?) – No official press releases have ever been put out by the Atlas defensive division, but third party reports have stumbled upon strange tests being conducted with heavy equipment sporting the Atlas logo. Passer-bys have made corroborated reports of what can only be described as weaponry causing exceedingly bright flashes seen from anywhere in Decentraland. The Defensive Division is not an official title - it was simply the moniker given to the sighting by a certain Decentraland news outlet – and may need to be revised given the group’s recent interest in construction and excavation equipment…
